Welcome to the sixth edition of the Hatena Featured Artist section of our blog, where we introduce Flipnote creators from around the world.

Every two weeks we post an interview with a talented creator on Flipnote Hatena, and include some information about their background, and the inspiration for their work.

Be sure to check back here every other Wednesday to see some of the most amazing artists on Flipnote Hatena. Maybe we’ll even feature you someday!

Today’s Hatena Featured Artist is gizmo (id:kingboo7) from the Americas region.

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Cole, I am 14 years old, and I live in California.

How do you get your inspiration for new Flipnotes? For example: Who are your favorite artists, artworks, scenery, etc.

Nearly all of my ideas are original and they generally pop into my head almost spontaneously (although when that happens I usually end up tweaking the idea to form a stronger story), and at other times, thinking of ideas will require a lot of brainstorming.

When you are not creating or looking at Flipnotes, what do you do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies or things you like other than Flipnotes?

I love playing video games (sometimes too much), and I draw cartoons nearly every day. I also occasionally swim laps at the local pool and practice piano regularly.

We believe that you have lots of ideas for your Flipnotes. Do you have any plans for a type or style of Flipnote that you would like to create in the future?

I’d like to continue making my current style of Flipnotes for now, but if I’m ever interested I might try my hand at realistic drawing or stick fights.

Let’s talk about something unrelated to Flipnotes. As you own a Nintendo DSi, we assume that you enjoy playing games as well. Which Nintendo DSi Game have you played recently and which one is your all-time favorite?

I recently bought Warioware D.I.Y. and am loving it, because of the accessible and professional approach to game design. As for my all-time favorite DS game, it would have to be Super Mario 64 DS because of how well it replicates–yet improves upon–the Nintendo 64 classic. And of course, my favorite DSiWare game is definitely Flipnote Studio.

As you know, Hatena is based in Kyoto, Japan. Have you ever been to Japan? If you get a chance to visit here, what is the first thing or place you like to check out?

Sadly, no, but I have wanted to for years. If I ever were to get the privilege of doing so, my first destination would probably be Tokyo because I feel it would be the perfect spot to get acquainted with modern Japanese culture.

Thank you for taking the time to answer those questions. Now, final word. If there is anybody you would like to greet or something you would like to say in the Flipnote Hatena community?

Thank you so much to all of my friends and fans for supporting me and helping me get this far. It has meant the world to me.
